Atiqul collects nomination paper to contest DNCC by-polls

Awami League nominated mayoral aspirant Atiqul Islam on Sunday collected a nomination paper to contest the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls slated for February 28 next.

On Atiqul's behalf, his chief electoral coordinator AKM Mizanur Rahman received the nomination paper from returning officer of DNCC by-election Abul Kashem at Election Training Institute (ETI) Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area, reports UNB.

On Saturday night, Awami League at a meeting picked former BGMEA president Atiqul Islam as its candidate for the DNCC mayoral post.

The Election Commission on January 22 last announced the schedules for by-polls to the DNCC mayoral post, and its councillor posts in 18 new wards as well as the councillor posts of Dhaka South City Corporation in its 18 new wards fixing February 28 for the balloting.

According to the schedule, the last date for nomination submission is January 30 while the scrutiny will be held on February 2 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is February 9.
