ASI suspended for harassing female passenger

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Rampura Police Station has been suspended over harassment of a female passenger of a an auto-rickshaw in the city's Rampura area early Tuesday.

Besides, departmental investigation has been launched against four constables who were also on duty during the incident.

Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (Motijheel Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Anwar Hossain said the action was taken against ASI Iqbal Hossain on Wednesday for his involvement in harassing the female auto-rickshaw passenger while checking her at a checkpoint in the early hours of Tuesday.

Investigation is being conducted against four constables of Public Order Management Division who were on duty during the time, the DC said, adding that departmental action will be taken against those found to be involved in the incident.

A video clip of a young female auto-rickshaw passenger being harassed by on-duty policemen at a checkpoint at Rampura around 2:30am on Tuesday has gone viral on social media, reports UNB.
