Army successful in gaining public confidence: Gen Aziz

Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed on Thursday said the army has been successful in gaining the confidence of people by properly performing their duties during the parliamentary elections.

He came up with the observation after inaugurating the construction work of three schools and colleges inside Jalsiri Housing Project at Purbachal here in the morning.

General Aziz said that though some casualties were reported on the election day, the general people were safe.

“The army devotedly carried out their tasks by conducting over one thousand patrols across the country each day. Being assured of their safety, people cast their votes,” he said.

On December 24 last, the army was deployed throughout the country to protect the law and order during the national election, UNB reported.

From the day of deployment, the members of the army conducted regular patrols in their respective areas as a striking force till January 1.
