Theatre festival underway at Jahangirnagar University

On the occasion of World Theatre Day 2022, a four-day (26-30 March 2022) long theatre festival 'Jatra Utsab' has been inaugurated yesterday at Jahangirnagar University. The festival is going to be organised by the Department of Drama and Dramatics of the university and the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy jointly. 

On the first day of the festival (Sunday, March 26, 2022), a joyous procession came out from the Old Arts Building of the university. Roaming the campus, the procession ended around the foothills of Amar Ekushey.

In the evening, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), in charge of the routine duties of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Md Nurul Alam formally inaugurated the festival.

Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Sheikh Mohammad Manjurul Haq, Treasurer prof Rasheda Akhtar, Md Mozammel Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and from Drama and Dramatics Department prof. Lutfar Rahman participated in the discussion meeting chaired by Israfil Ahmed, Chairman of the Department of Drama and Dramatics.

At 8 pm, 'Zatrapala'--the first performance of the four-day Jatra Festival was staged by the Department of Theatre and Media Studies of Tejgaon College.

On the second day (today), at 6.30 pm and 7 pm, Under the direction of apprentice director Rahul Prasad Das and Md Mainul Islam, ‘Gambhira Pala: Natir Biyer Byartho Swapno’ (Failed Dreams of Grandson's Marriage) and Gazir Gaan, will be performed respectively.

Jatrapala 'Alor Pane Jai' (March towards light), a production of Department of Drama and Dramatics will be presented at 7:30 pm under the direction of Mahibur Rauf Shaibal. Here, the Palakar is Ahmed Aminul Islam, Reza Arif will work as direction Advisor. 

On the third day of the festival (March 29) at 6.30 pm, 'Padmapuran Gaan' will be performed by the Department of Drama and Dramatics under the direction of apprentice Khandaker Rakibul Haque.

'Gazir Pala' will be performed at 6 pm by the same producer and under the direction of the examinee director Faisal Abdullah. 'Orbula Sundarir Pala' will be served at 7:30 pm under the direction of Shahadat Noman. 

Banglar Nayok Isha Kha (Bengali hero Isha Khan) will be performed at 7 pm under the direction of Tapas Sarkar and produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

On the fourth and last day of the festival (30 March) at 7:30 pm, the closing speech will be delivered by the Chairman of the Department of Drama and Dramatics prof. Dr Israfil Ahmed.

The four-day-long event will end with the performance of ‘Jatrapala: Nishongo Lorai’ (Palakar - Masum Reza, Production Advisor - Liaquat Ali Lucky) produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Hepatari Jatradal at 7.30 pm.
