PDF-JU received Suborno Nagorik Award-2022

Activists and organisations working for the well-being of physically challenged or differently-abled persons were honoured by Suborno Nagorik Foundation yesterday. 

On Sunday, nominated awardees across the country received the honour at a function at the Daffodil Education Network Campus in the capital's Dhanmondi. 

Abdul Gaffar, President of Physically challenged Development Foundation (PDF), Jahangirnagar University unit, has been rewarded the "Suborno Nagorik Award-2022" in the category "Employees of differently-abled person."

The President of the PDF JU unit said, "The number of people with physical disabilities in Bangladesh is over 10 million. More than half of them are children and women with disabilities. Many of the country's citizens are extremely neglected, backward and unemployed. I hope this award will encourage me to make an accessible society and serve my country better in future.

Rewarded persons and organisations include parents of special children, employees of organisations working for differently-abled persons, differently-abled persons, sports personalities and their patrons." 

Founder-CEO of Suborno Nagorik Foundation, Asif Iqbal Chowdhury, hosted the event. He said, "Physical adversity cannot be an obstacle, and this civic honour recognises the souls who contribute to the formation of the society and the country."

Founder-chairman of Daffodil University, Sabur Khan, Executive Editor of The Daily Star, Syed Ashfaqul Haque, Senior Vice President of FBCCI Mostofa Azad Babu, Deputy Managing Director of United Commercial Bank ATM Tahmiduzzaman, Executive Vice President Abul Kalam Azad and Managing Director of Building Technology and Ideas (BTI), Faizur Rahman Khan were present on the occasion. 

Physically challenged Development Foundation (PDF) was established at Jahangirnagar University in 2008. Since its establishment, the organisation has been working to change society's attitude towards disabled students. Also, this organisation has provided support for disabled students by providing cost-free study and various scholarships, computer training, audio writing, and recording textbooks.
