Admission test for the Faculty of Arts has been held at Dhaka University.

A total 32,749 candidates took the one-hour multiple choice questions or MCQ exam under 'Kha' unit starting 10:00am Friday, the university said in a statement.

The tests were held at 70 centres, of which 66 are located inside Dhaka University campus, reports bdnews24.

The remaining centres were at Leather Engineering and Technology Institute, Bangladesh Technology University School and College, Dhaka College, and Eden College.

The candidates passed metal detectors to enter the venues. Mobile courts circled these venues to take action over any attempt of unfair tactics during the exams.

They competed for 2,363 seats available in the Arts faculty, with 14 aspirants eyeing each seat.

Earlier on Thursday, three individuals were detained during a night raid by a university proctorial team.

They stand accused of attempting to contact examinees on Facebook in a bid to help them cheat in the test, DU acting Proctor Prof Amzad Ali has said.

Police are trying to nab their leader, he added.

Examinations for entering Dhaka University are scheduled until Oct 20.

The leading public university's five academic units have a total availability of 7,123 seats against a total of 263,039 candidates; which means 37 students will battle for each seat this year.
