4 BCL men expelled for torturing journalist in JU

The university administration has temporarily expelled four Chhatra League activists for torturing a journalist physically in the guest room of Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore hall of Jahangirnagar University.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the university's disciplinary committee on Tuesday (September 6) evening.

The expelled activists are Asad Haque and Arif Zaman Sejan, (46th batch) students of the Department of Anthropology, Rayhan Bin Habib, (47th batch) student of the same Department and Masum Billah, (47th batch) student of Law and Justice Department.

Proctor (Acting) of the university, ASM Firoz-ul-Hasan, said that a four-member committee had been formed by convening the provost of Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall, Professor Sukalyan Kumar Kundu to investigate the incident further.

The other committee members are Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall provost, Professor Israfil Ahmed, and Alberuni Hall Provost, Md. Ashraful Alam and Sohail Rana, proctor's assistant registrar, have been appointed Member Secretary. The committee has been asked to submit its report within 10 working days.

On August 2, some Chhatra League activists physically tortured Al-Amin Hossain Rubel, the university correspondent of an online news portal, in the guest room of Rabindranath Tagore Hall. That same night, the university branch of the Chhatra League declared 8 Chhatra League activists persona-non-grata from the organisation.
