13th National Nature Summit underway, divisional fest at Dhaka to held on September 9

13th National Nature Summit underway, divisional fest at Dhaka to held on September 9

The environmental quality index is declining due to widespread pollution degrading our biosphere and its ecological assets. In Bangladesh, things are already at an alarming stage.

Especially being a high-density country, the effects of climate change on the surface and groundwater resources will be severe and alarming.

To raise awareness about the climate crisis, the Notre Dame Nature Study Club of Notre Dame College (NDNSC) has come up with a unique program. Their eight divisional fests are designed to spread the word of 'mass awareness' and the agony of our mother earth to all corners of the country.

Only with an aware and conscious young generation, the change which we all yearn for can be brought about. Our prior works contain many national and international initiatives. By incorporating youth voices, we believe we can empower them towards climate action to mitigate the climate issue and make our future sustainable.

With this aim, Notre Dame Nature Study Club of Notre Dame College, in partnership with the Department of Environment under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, through their ongoing project 'Integrated and Participatory Project to Control Noise Pollution,' is going to host The 13th National Nature Summit 2022.

The Notre Dame Nature Study Club is raising the bar for nationwide celebrations by planning an event that will be held in all 8 of the country's divisions simultaneously.

The event has been operational since July 1 and will continue till November 20, 2022. This year's theme is 'Voice of Youth on Climate Change' with the broader goal of a 'Nationwide Awareness Campaign.'

The organisers anticipate more than 2000 participants in their Dhaka Divisional Festival. It would include students, educators, environmentalists, and parents from around the division. Many of our associates, researchers, and current and former students at the college are scheduled to attend and talk about the five-month phenomenon.

In keeping with NDNSC's long-held commitment to the value of diversity and teamwork, participants in this festival were invited from all levels of education, including primary (Grades 1–5), junior (Grades 6-8), secondary (Grades 9–10), and higher secondary (Grades 11–12).

13th NNS has Solo Events like Nature Quiz, Art Competition, and Team-Based Events like Project Display, Wall Magazine, Online Events like Green Bee, Confab Presentation, and Photography contest. Moreover, it will hold a seminar on 'Sound pollution and actions to address the issue' organised by the Department of Environment. The divisional rounds have already been adorned by the innovative youths of Chattogrram, Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet. But now is the time of the grand event in the capital, Dhaka, which is scheduled for September 9-10, 2022.

The event will be graced by Dr. Dipu Moni, Member of Parliament, Hon'ble Minister, Ministry of Education, The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, as the chief guest. Dr. Prof. Pran Gopal Dotto, Member of Parliament, Comilla-5 constituency, Former Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, will be present as the special guest.

The presence of three special guests will also enhance the festival - Advocate Gloria Jharna Sarker, the first-ever Catholic Christian woman to be in Parliament, Member of Parliament for Women's Reserved Seat-30, Syeda Masuma Khanam, Director (Deputy Secretary), Ministry of Environment, and Abdul Mukit Majumder Babu, Chairman, Prokriti O Jibon Foundation. The ceremony chair will be adorned by Rev Bejoy Nicephorus D'Cruze, OMI, Archbishop of Dhaka and President of CBCB.

Both opening and closing ceremonies will also be embellished with the presence of father Hemanto Pius Rozario, CSC, Principal of Notre Dame College.

In 1984, with the motto 'Love the Beauty of Nature,' the Notre Dame Nature Study Club was created, making it the first of its kind in Bangladesh. Active in both a local and international arena, NDNSC is now the only club in the country to have won a national award, the Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation, presented in 2014 by the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
