Saturday, 5 December 2020

Muktijuddho Mancha has announced to file a sedition case against Hifazat-e Islam’s joint secretary general Mamunul Haque and Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Sayed Faizul Karim on charges of defaming Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the name of opposing his sculpture.

The platform of the progenies of the freedom fighters made the announcement at a press conference at the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association’s (DUJA) office on Saturday, report BSS and bdnews24.com.

President of the organisation Aminul Islam Bulbul said Faizul and Mamunul had committed the crime of treason by threatening to throw the sculpture of Bangabandhu in the Buriganga River and opposing the construction of the sculpture.

“Moreover, through this, they have also opposed the constitution of the country. So we decided to file a sedition case against them”, he added.

Terming Mamunul Haque as a silent supporter of child rape, Bulbul said, “In the last month about 35 madrasa students of the country were sexually abused.

Among the 35 abused, two students died and one committed suicide.”

“It is very unfortunate that we have not yet seen any comment or protest of the country’s Islamic scholars on such scandalous incidents,” he furthered.

The organisation placed a seven-point demand which includes exemplary punishment of Mamunul and Faizul, setting up Bangabandhu’s sculpture at all educational institutions and districts.

The mancha will hold a documentary exhibition on the sexual abuse of madrasa students at Raju Memorial Sculpture on Dhaka University (DU) campus next Wednesday.

General Secretary of the organization Al Mamun and DU unit president Sonnet Mahmud among others addressed the press conference.
