ICC elects secretary general, first vice-chair

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has elected John W H Denton AO and Paul Polman respectively as next secretary general and first vice-chair.

The election was held at the extra-ordinary World Council of ICC in Tokyo recently.

Mr. Denton is currently serving as chief executive officer of the leading Australian law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth and Mr. Polman as that of Unilever as ICC’s new First Vice-Chair.

Mr. Polman will succeed current ICC Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal from 1 July, 2018, who in turn will take the position of honorary chairman of ICC, the world’s largest business organisation.

The ICC World Council was attended by more than 50 chairmen/vice-chairmen/secretary generals of the ICC national committees from different parts of the world.

Among them were ICC Bangladesh president Mahbubur Rahman, vice president Latifur Rahman and secretary general Ataur Rahman, according to a press release.

ICC World Council was followed by ICC Regional Consultative Group Meeting and ICC Asia Pacific CEO Forum, which were also held in Tokyo on 8-9 March.
