5,264 died with Covid symptoms in last 17 months

A total of 5,264 people died with coronavirus (Covid-19) symptoms in the last 17 months and nine days from March 22 to August 31 across the country, according to the latest report.
However, deaths with COVID-19 symptoms have decreased from 18 August to 31 August 2021 (246) compared to 4 August to 17 August 2021 (583), disclosed a Bangladesh Peace Observatory (BPO) report.
A total of 246 people were killed in the past two weeks from August 18 to August 31, 2021, while the number was August 4 to 17 August 17, 2021, it reveals.
Of the total deaths, 4,671 were male and 593 female, the BPO data said.
The report was prepared under the Centre for Genocide Studies at Dhaka University.
It was based on information from 25 media outlets, including national and local dailies, TV channels and news portals. However, this information was not verified at field level.
Seven protests related to the COVID-19 pandemic were reported from 18 August 2021 to 31 August 2021.
Tangail district book publishers and sellers association gave an application to the Tangail district deputy commissioner to convey it to the prime minister and demanded for government incentive package during the pandemic at Tangail Sadar Upazila.
Four people were arrested, and no fine was awarded from 18 August to 31 August 2021, the data revealed.
During the period from 22 March 2020 to 03 August 2021, Dhaka division saw 593 deaths with Covid symptoms while it was 772 in Chattogram division.
During the period from 22 March 2020 to 31 August 2021, Rajshahi division saw 1,297 with Covid symptoms which were the highest.
Dhaka division saw 660 deaths while it was 791 in Chattogram division.
Rangpur division had the lowest such deaths at 106, according to the BPO report.
Sylhet, Mymensingh, Khulna and Barishal divisions reported 114, 568, 1,058 and 670 deaths respectively.
The top 10 districts in terms of deaths from Covid-like symptoms are Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Barishal Satkhira, Bogura, Cumilla Chandpur, Faridpur, Khulna, and Chattogram.
