War-time naval commander Nurul Huq passes away   

The first chief of staff of the Bangladesh Navy and freedom fighter Captain Nurul Huq died in Dhaka on Monday evening. He was 99.

He was also the second temporary chief of Bangladesh Navy during the liberation war. After retiring from the Pakistan Navy as Commodore in 1969, he joined the Mukti Bahini (Liberation Forces) in 1971.

Captain (nautical) Nurul Huq served as the country’s naval chief between April 7, 1972 and November 6, 1973, according to official records.

The namaj-e-janaza of Mr. Nurul Huq will be held after Zuhr prayers on Tuesday and he would be buried at the Military Graveyard in Banani, upon completion of all state protocols.
