The US embassy in Dhaka has issued a fresh travel/health alert for its citizens and suggested them to depart Bangladesh if such opportunities arise amid the outbreak of COVID-19.

It said "The U.S. Embassy continues to explore options for American citizens to depart Bangladesh.  Should potential travel opportunities arise, and if you would like to receive information about these opportunities, please register in the new sign-up form: https://bit.ly/35bbXtW".

The embassy remains open for businesses, it said in an alert message published on its website on Wednesday.

The US embassy also noted that registering at this link does not guarantee anyone that that they will be contacted or receive a seat on any chartered flight.

Bangladesh has implemented further measures to limit the spread of coronavirus, including extending the general holiday period from March 29 to May 5, it pointed out.

Bangladeshi government offices and private sector organisations will largely remain closed until May 5 and the government has advised everyone to stay home during this period.

A daily curfew is in effect from 6:00pm to 6:00am.  Hospitals, pharmacies, and food stores remain open.  Public transportation and banking services remain limited, the statement reads.
