Two more coronavirus patients detected: IEDCR

Two more persons have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country.

Both of them are male — one of them, recently coming from Italy, was kept in institutional quarantine while the other was hospitalised in isolation after coming in close contact with an expat who recently came from the USA.

With the latest, the number of COVID-19 positive cases reached 10. Three of them had recovered.

Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research ( IEDCR) director professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora revealed this at a regular press briefing on Tuesday.

She said the person who came from abroad with coronavirus infection had returned after staying for a short  while. He had fever.

"We once again draw your attention that you should strictly follow the rules of home or self quarantine familially. We are observing local transmission among the family members, " she said.

Mrs Flora advised the foreign buyers, who had come for official purpose, not to visit any garment factory now.

She suggested checking up the garment workers before letting them enter the factories, and sending them back home if they have symptoms like cough, soaring throat, flu, fever and respiratory problems.

The factory owners should also be paying the workers until they recover; otherwise the workers might hide information, Mrs Flora opined.

She reiterated that there was still no case of community transmission and there was nothing to worry about corona outbreak.

The IEDCR director said the IEDCR has a capacity to test 1000 samples per day.

UNB adds: in the last 24 hours, the IEDCR tested 36 people. The total number of people kept in isolation is now 16.

On Monday, IEDCR reported three new cases and confirmed that the virus has started transmitting locally.

The global death toll from coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic climbed to 7,164 on Tuesday. The disease has so far infected 182,550 people around the world, according to worldometer.
