Thakurgaon bus collision leaves eight people dead

At least eight people have died after two buses collided in Thakurgaon.

The accident took place on the Thakurgaon-Dhaka Highway in Jagannathpur Union around 8:30am on Friday, said Ashikur Rahman, chief of the Sadar Police Station.

The accident has left at least 20 people injured.

“The bus operated by Dipjol Enterprise was travelling from Dhaka to Thakurgaon,” said OC Rahman.

“On the way it crashed head-on into another bus operated by Nishat Enterprise from Baliadangi to Dinajpur, killing five passengers on the scene.

The injured were taken to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where two more died, he added.

Later, the eighth man died on the way from Thakurgaon to Rangpur, said Abdul Hannan Hanu, chairman of Rahimanpur Union Parishad.

Four of them were women and four men, bdnews24.com reports.

One of the victims has been identified as the 42-year-old Abdul Majid. He was the resident of Sadar Upazila’s Lakshmipur villege.

“Each family will receive Tk 10,000 to complete the burial after the bodies are identified,” said Deputy Commissioner KM Kamruzzaman Selim, after visiting the scene.
