Switzerland has said it stands by Bangladesh in facing the COVID-19 crisis and implementing an effective response as nations around the globe suffer from challenges posed by the pandemic.

The country has already earmarked 2.8 Million CHF or approximately 250 million (25 Crore) BDT for immediate response activities in Bangladesh, which will be implemented through local and international partner organisations, according to a media release received today (Saturday).

In collaboration with the Government of Bangladesh, civil society, development partners and donor organisations, Switzerland continues to evaluate additional response activities to prevent and mitigate coronavirus risks in Bangladesh even better and faster.

Switzerland has further committed 14.4 Million CHF or 1.26 billion (126 Crore) BDT to the UN’s global COVID-19 appeal as well as the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement (IFCR and ICRC).

The highly infectious coronavirus disease has so far killed 27 people in Bangladesh and the total number of infections in the country stands at 424, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
