A Rohingya man, shot during Friday's attacks on security forces in Myanmar, has died in a Bangladesh hospital.

Two wounded Rohingya men from the bordering Rakhine state crossed into Bangladesh late Friday and got themselves admitted to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 8am on Saturday, said police.

One of them, 22-year-old Md Musa from the Maungdaw town, just across the border at Cox's Bazar Teknaf, succumbed to his wounds at 11:15am, said Assistant Sub Inspector Alauddin Talukder.

The other man identified as 27-year-old Md Mokhtar Hossain is undergoing treatment.

Bangladesh has stepped up border security as thousands of Rohingyas are fleeing the country following attacks on police posts and an army base in Rakhine state. Talukder said the men said they were shot during an attack on Maungdaw's Linemakhali Police Outpost on Friday, reports bdnews24.com.

The two managed to cross the border at Cox’s Bazar the same night and then travelled to Chittagong city, he said.

The Rohingya minority in Myanmar has faced persecution for many years. Myanmar has not recognised calls from the global community, including the UN, to ensure and protect the human rights of the Rohingyas.

Around 87,000 Rohingyas joined hundreds of thousands of refugees in Bangladesh after the Myanmar army crackdown on militants following an attack on a police post in October last year.

The latest attacks may spur another wave of refugee influx.
