A journalist was killed in a clash over land dispute at Khilbaicha of Sadar upazila in Laxmipur on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Shah Monir Palash, district correspondent of Bengali daily 'Dainik Rupbani', and son of Monir Hossain of the village.

The victim sustained injuries on the head and chest when his cousins -- Abu Yusuf and Abu Sayeed -- hit him with a rod on Wednesday morning during a quarrel over a land, said Md Lokman Hossain, officer-in-charge of Laxmipur Sadar Police Station, quoting locals.

Palash was rescued and taken to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital in a critical condition. Later, he was sent to Noakhali General Hospital for better treatment. But, as his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning, police said, reports UNB.
