Restriction on vehicular movement extended to April 25

The ongoing restriction on vehicular movement has been extended to April 25 in line with the government’s decision in a bid to continue the lockdown in the country for checking the spread of coronavirus.

Road Transport and Highways Division (RTHD) under Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges took the decision of the extension on Saturday, according to a press release issued with the signing by Deputy Chief Information Officer Mohammad Abu Naser.

The government announced the lockdown first from March 26 to April 04.   Later, it was extended to April 14.

As the number of corona infected people and casualty has continued to increase, fresh extension of general holiday was again announced on April 10 to force people to stay at home util April 25.

The RTHD, however, increased the areas of allowable goods carrying vehicles and covered vans during the restriction period.

These are vehicles and covered vans using for supplying emergency services, transportation of foods and necessary items, power, medicines, medicinal and treatment materials, agricultural products, fertilizer, pesticide, fish, milk and milk-made products, children foods, basic materials for production of livelihood, media and relief items.

As the law enforcing agencies have discovered using many of the goods carrying vehicles for people transportation, the RTHD alerted people not to use those.

However, since the restriction on public transport movement announced, no instruction has far come on the survival of the lakhs of drivers and helpers who mainly earn on the basis of daily trips.
