Most parts of the country are likely to witness increased rainfall from Monday as a low pressure area has formed over the central part of the Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Bay.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) in a bulletin on Saturday also said light to moderate rain/thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at isolated places over the country.

Until Saturday morning, the highest 45 millimetres (mm) rainfall was recorded in Tetulia, the 24-hour forecast said.

The BMD forecast also said it is likely to intensify and move in a West-northwesterly direction. The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Rajsthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, the centre of the low, then northeastwards to Assam across Bangladesh.

Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay, as per the bulletin which is valid until Sunday morning.

Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.
