President M Abdul Hamid has stressed the need for utilising commerce and investment potentials between Bangladesh and Nepal as visiting Nepalese Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawall paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday.
During meeting, the President stressed exploring trade and investment potential of Bangladesh and strengthening the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Nepal, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin said, reports BSS.
“Bangladesh and Nepal have much potentials to explore . . . Both the countries would get benefit if the possibilities can be utilised properly,” the President observed.
The head of the state underscored the need for arranging exchange-visit between the representatives of both government and private levels of the two friendly countries aiming to strengthen bilateral ties.
Recalling the cooperation of Nepal during the 1971 Liberation War, the President expressed gratitude to the Nepalese government and its people.
The President also mentioned that a good number of Nepalese students are studying in Bangladesh and they are also cutting good figure in the examinations also.
He put emphasis on expanding bilateral ties in education and cultural sectors also.
“We need a comprehensive initiative to boost the connectivity between the two friendly countries,” Abdul Hamid added.
Terming the Rohingya issue a big problem for Bangladesh, the President urged Nepal government to play positive role in different regional and international forums to ensure their safe and dignified repatriation of Rohingya Muslims.
Referring to the meeting with the Bangladesh foreign minister, Pradeep Kumar said various bilateral issues, specially commerce, investment and tourism, dominated the talks.
This would help to enhance the relation of cooperation between the two countries.
Mentioning Bangladesh President’s recent visit to Kathmandu, the minister said a new horizon of relations has opened soon after the visit.
