A writ petition was filed on Monday with the High Court seeking its directive to allow Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Begum Khaleda Zia to go abroad for medical treatment.

Talking to The Financial Express, Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond said he submitted the public interest litigation (PIL) plea in the High Court.

There are no lawful barriers for Begum Zia to travel abroad for the treatment in line with Section 401 (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), articles 11, 28(4), 32, 49 of Bangladesh Constitution and articles 3, 5,11, 13(2) of United Nations Universal Declaration of Humanitarian Rights, he said.

The petition will be presented before the HC for a hearing on Tuesday, Advocate Akond added.
