Police in separate drives arrested four people along with 700 gold bars worth 309.5 million from different parts of port city and in Mirsarai upazila of the Chattogram district on Sunday.
Masiuddoula Reza, additional superintendent (north) of Chattogram police, said a team of police conducted a drive at Shonapahar in Jorarganj area of Mirsarai upazila around 4:45 pm and recovered 600 gold bars worth Tk 265 million from a private car.
Police also arrested two people in this connection. The arrestees are Karim Shah, 38 of Jashore and Rakib, 26 of Chuadanga district.
In another incident, detectives in a drive arrested two people and recovered 100 gold bars worth Tk 44.5 million from a private car in CRB area in the port city on Sunday.
The arrestees are Proloy Kumar Saha, 59, of Narayanganj district and Billal Hossain alias Quader, 28, of Shariatpur district.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested them along with the gold bars, said Mirza Sayem Mahmud, additional deputy commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.
