Police detain six in connection with gang-rape incident in city

Police arrested six suspects in connection with a gang-rape incident in Dhaka’s Kadamtali area.
The arrestees are Md. Tushar (22), Md. Ali Hossain Rony (24), Md. Sumon Hawladar (30), Md. Hridoy (26), Md. Parvez Chowdhury (25) and Yunus Payada (27).
In a statement released on Sunday, Kadamtali Police Inspector (Operation) Mahabub Alam said that the arrested persons gang-raped the victim at a rented house in Alambagh area of Jurain at around 1:00 pm on May 31, 2020.
A case was filed in Kadamtali police station on June 4, 2020. After the case was filed, they were arrested from various places in the capital on the basis of secret information, the police officer pointed out.
He stated that the detainees confessed to the incident during preliminary interrogation.
The suspects- Ali Hossain Rony, Hridoy and Sumon Hawladar- gave a confessional statement under section 164 of The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 before a court, Alam added.
