Police have surrounded a suspected militant hideout in the district town of Jessore.

The operation began early Monday after police received a tip-off on the house in Ghop Naoapara Road area.

As of Monday morning, police had blocked the access road to the building and have barred the media and locals from the area.

According to a police official, the tip indicated Mashiur Rahman, an accomplice of neo-JMB leader Marzan, is currently at a flat in the building.

However, police have yet to officially brief the media on the scene, reports bdnews24.

The building’s owner is Jessore District School Assistant Teacher Haider Ali, who lives with his family in the school’s staff quarter. The flats in the building are available for rent.

Around 4:30am on Monday he heard from a relative that police had surrounded the building at Ghop Naorapara, Ali said. He went to the scene but was not allowed to enter the building.

Ali says he rented a flat on the west side of the second storey to a man named Mashiur Rahman about a year ago.

“He told us he worked at a herbal company. He lives in the flat with his wife and two children. As far as I know, the other tenants are still in their flats.”
