PIAB urges govt for loans, other forms of financial assistance

Printing Industries Association of Bangladesh (PIAB) urged the Prime Minister to facilitate soft loan and financial assistance for providing four months salaries and festival allowance to its employees.

PIAB demanded loans from commercial banks at 2.0 per cent interest and also financial assistance to provide the salaries of March, April, May and June 2020 and festival bonus ahead of Eid al-Fitr for the employees working in the printing industry, the association insisted.

About 7,000 printing houses in the country and about 500,000 workers are dependent on it are currently unemployed, it further noted.

To overcome the financial loss, the loan will also speed up its activities and businesses and stop them from shutting down, the PIAB said.

The pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19) is a worldwide threat. All printing presses across the country have been shut down due to the COVID-19 epidemic. On top of it, the ongoing lockdown is being extended.

As a result, the printing business has come to a standstill, the association added.
