Over 3.6m cases pending in courts: Law minister

More than 3.64 million cases are now pending with the higher and lower courts across the country, according to statistics placed by Law Minister Anisul Huq in the parliament on Sunday, reports BSS.

“Till September 2019, the total number of the cases pending with the country’s higher and lower courts were 36,40,639,” he said, in reply to a question from treasury bench MP Syeda Rubina Akhter.

Of the pending cases, 14,53,107 were civil cases while 20,90,526 criminal cases and 97,006 other cases (condemned petitions and writs),” Anisul said.

He informed the House that 5,13,396 cases were under trial in the higher courts while 31,27,243 cases in the subordinate courts.

Anisul said the government has taken various effective measures for quick disposal of the pending cases.

He said the present government has gained a marked progress in disposal of the pending cases after taking various measures, including recruitment of new judges and introduction of tribunals and infrastructural development.
