‘Other fugitive killers of Bangabandhu to be brought back’

Law Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday said the other fugitive killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be brought back to execute the Supreme Court verdict, reports UNB.

“In this year of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary, I promise to bring other fugitive murderers back and implement the Supreme Court verdict on Bangladesh’s soil,” he said.

The Law Minister came up with the remarks in a video message from his residence after the execution of Bangabandhu’s murderer Capt (dismissed) Abdul Majed in the first hour of Sunday.

Expressing satisfaction after the execution of Bangabandhu’s murderer Capt (dismissed) Abdul Majed, the minister said “We’ve fulfilled the promise we had made, even if partially, by implementing the verdict of Bangabandhu murder case.”

Implementing the verdict of Bangabandhu murder case in the year of birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is a matter of relief, he said.

Majed was hanged early Sunday, 45 years after the assassination of the country’s founding father.

Five others involved in the killing – Syed Farooq Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, Bazlul Huda, AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed and Mohiuddin Ahmed – were executed in January 2010.

Another killer, Aziz Pasha, met the natural death in Zimbabwe in 2001.

Five other convicted killers -- former Lt Col Khandaker Abdur Rashid, SHBM Noor Chowdhury, Shariful Haque Dalim, Rashed Chowdhury, and Risaldar Moslehuddin -- are in hiding.

Of them, the government knew the whereabouts of Noor Chowdhury, Rashed Chowdhury and Moslehuddin.

According to the government, Noor has been living in Canada and Rashed in the USA.
