Niloufer Manzur laid to eternal rest at Banani graveyard

Niloufer Manzur, Founding  Principal of Sunbeams School and wife of the country's eminent industrialist Syed Manzur Elahi, was laid to eternal rest at Banani Graveyard on Tuesday afternoon following necessary health directives and protocols.

Her son Syed Nasim Manzur was present during the burial ceremony on behalf of the family.

Earlier, Niloufer Manzur died of COVID-19 at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital at 00:55am on Tuesday.

She was 74 and left behind her husband, Syed Manzur Elahi, former adviser to the caretaker government and chairman, Apex Footwear Ltd, son Syed Nasim Manzur, daughter Munize Manzur, daughter-in-law Dr Samia Huq, 6 grandchildren, sister Yasmeen Haque, brother Jamshed Chowdhury and a large host of friends, admirers and students.

She founded Sunbeams School on January 15, 1974.

Mrs Niloufer was the daughter of late Dr Mafiz Ali Chowdhury, MP, a former minister in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s cabinet in 1972.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Niloufer Manzur.

The prime minister, in her condolence message, prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Besides, business organisations and dignitaries also condoled her death.
