Gas pressure likely to be low during Eid holidays

Natural gas pressure might be low in some parts of the country during the ensuing Eid-ul-Fitr vacation as the authorities concerned will carry out maintenance of a compression station and shut two major fields.

The low gas pressure will impact Tangail, Narsingdi, Elenga, Jaidevpur, Dhonua, Amin Bazar, Ashulia, Savar, Manikganj, Madhobdi, Bhulta, Arai Hazar, Tarabo and the adjacent areas, said a senior official of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd (TGTDCL).

Electricity generation in gas-fired power plants might also be hampered in these areas.

Ashuganj compression station will be under maintenance during May 10-15.

The country’s largest producing Bibiyana gas field operated by US’s Chevron in Sylhet region and the Bangora gas field operated by Singapore's KrisEnergy will also be shut partially or fully on Eid day and the day after the Eid, he said.

Sources, however, said that the country’s overall natural gas supply might not impact badly due to the maintenance of the compression station and closure of two foreign firm operated gas fields during the period of Eid festival as most of the industrial units will remain shut then.
