Narayanganj steel mill explosion: Death toll reaches four

Four workers, who were injured in a steel mill explosion at Barfa area of Rupganj in Narayanganj early hours of Friday, died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Abu Siddique, 30, Sakil, 20, Fahim, 25, and Mizanur Rahman, 33, said DMCH police outpost in-charge Inspector Bachchu Mia.

Mizanur Rahman died on the spot while Fahim breathed his last on Friday at the DMCH.

Abu Siddique, 30, and Sakil, 20, succumbed to their injuries at the burn institute today.

Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery’s resident surgeon Dr Partha Shankar Paul said five people were admitted to the institute with severe burn injuries. Of them three — Abu Siddique, Sakil and Fahim — have died, he said.

The conditions of the remaining two — Raju and Rafiq — are critical.

According to the relatives of the deceased, the workers were injured when molten iron fell on them at the steel mill around 3am on Thursday, reports BSS.
