Monowar made ERD secy-in-charge

The government has appointed additional secretary of the Economic Relations Division Monowar Ahmed as the secretary-in-charge of the same division.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a government order in this connection on Thursday.

Mr Ahmed’s appointment came after Kazi Shofiqul Azam went on Post Retirement Leave on October 27.

Monowar Ahmed, who is a career civil servant, joined the Bangladesh Administrative Service in 1986 and worked in different ministries/divisions such as Cabinet Division, Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Local Government and Cooperatives in various capacities.

Mr Ahmed graduated in Economics from Jahangirnagar University in 1983. Later, he received Master’s degree in Administrative Science from the German University of Administrative Sciences, Speyer, Germany.

ERD, which is one of the four divisions of the Ministry of Finance, mobilises external resources for socio-economic development of the country.

ERD leads as the focal point of the government for interfacing with the development partners as well as for co-ordination of all external assistance inflows into the country.

It assesses the needs of external assistance, devises strategy for negotiations and mobilising foreign assistance, formalises and enables aid mobilisation through the signing of loans and grant agreements, determines and executes external economic policy.
