Ministers, secretaries to get Tk 75,000 handset allowance

Minsters, state ministers, deputy ministers, secretaries and acting secretaries will be entitled to Tk 75,000 for buying mobile phone sets.

The government will provide mobile services without any limit and their bills will be paid from the exchequer.

The cabinet on Monday approved a the facilities at a meeting on Monday at the Prime Minister's Office in Dhaka.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting, reports bdnews24.com.

The meeting approved the draft of the ‘Government Telephone, Cellular, Fax and Internet Policy 2018’.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam discussed the decision with the media at a briefing after the meeting.

He said the new draft was made last year and it was approved on Monday after scrutiny.

Under the previous policy, ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers and secretaries received Tk 15,000 allocations for mobile phones.

The allocation was increased by 500 per cent in the new draft.

“The adjustment has been made after consideration of the current market,” Alam said.

The cabinet has also instructed international roaming charges to be covered for Supreme Court justices and top foreign ministry officials, he added.
