Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday claimed to have detained a man with 17 gold bars weighing 1.985 kg in Sharsha upazila of Jashore.
The detainee was identified as Montaj Hossain, 45, a resident of Patuakhali.
Acting on a tip-off that drugs were being transported to India from Jashore, a team of BGB-21 detained the man with the gold bars worth Tk 16.3 million from the Rudra border area of the Sharsha upazila around 11:00am, said battalion commander Lt Col Tanveer Rahman.
The detainee has been handed over to Sharsha police, said the officer, reports UNB.
