The Maldives government has halted all direct and transit flights from Bangladesh over the recent confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Bangladesh.

The ban will be effective from Tuesday till March 24, Maldivian news portal theedition.com reported  on Monday citing a circular released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Maldives.

Earlier on Sunday, Qatar government temporarily barred arrivals from Bangladesh and 13 other countries as a precautionary measure against the fast spreading coronavirus, effective from the next day.

Kuwait government on Friday suspended all flights to and from Bangladesh and six other countries in the wake of the viral outbreak to affectively bar arrivals from those countries.

Saudi Arabia has also suspended the year-round 'umrah' pilgrimage, fearing that it may spread the new coronavirus to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
