The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) has asked the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to connect the ministry's e-hajj system with the website www.surokkha.gov.bd.

It will facilitate the intending pilgrims to get vaccinated against coronavirus before leaving for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for performing holy hajj this year.

The Saudi government has made Covid-19 vaccine as well as booster doses mandatory for the pilgrims.

A high official of the MoRA told the FE that they have requested the DGHS to connect www.surokkha.gov.bd with the ministry's e-hajj system to facilitate the pilgrims to get vaccinated before going to the KSA.

The ministry has also asked the A2I authority to help establish the connectivity.

The holy hajj will be observed on June 27 - subject to appearance of the moon.

Bangladesh and the KSA signed an agreement on hajj in January. As per the deal, a total of 1,27,198 Bangladeshis can perform hajj this year. Of the total number, 15,000 can perform under the government arrangement, and the rest under private management.

The agreement also allows persons above 65 years to perform hajj this year, which was not possible last year.
