Police arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from his residence in Chattogram city’s Bakalia area on Thursday night.
The arrestee was identified as Prof Ahsan Ullah, nayeb-e-amir of the city unit Jamaat-e-Islami.
Pranab Kumar, officer-in-charge of Bakalia Police Station, was quoted by UNB news agency as saying that a team of police in a drive arrested the Jamaat leader from his residence around 10:30 pm.
Ahsan was wanted in a number of political cases, he said.
