Indian firecrackers seized in Habiganj

Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 25,500 pieces of Indian firecrackers from Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district in Sylhet on early Tuesday.

Lt. Col Asaduzzaman Chowdhury, Commander of BGB Battalion-55, said on secret information, a group of BGB conducted a drive in Bhabanipur village of Bohra union under the upazila in the morning and seized the firecrackers.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the smugglers fled away immediately, added the commander.

The firecrackers were smuggled from India ahead of Durga Puja, the biggest Hindu festival; according to a news agency report.
