A huge gridlock has been created on both sides of Bangabanhu Bridge as the computerised toll collection system of the bridge broke down on Sunday morning.

Due to the malfunction of the system, the toll collection was kept suspended from 10:00am to 12:00pm, keeping hundreds of vehicles stranded on the bridge, reports UNB.

Later, the bridge authorities started collecting tolls manually, said Engineer Tofazzol Hossain, caretaker of the site office of Bangabandhu Bridge.

"We are not confirmed about how much time it will take to restore the system," said the caretaker.

Meanwhile, traffic movement on both sides of the bridge started to ease gradually.
