Hot weather persisted for another day in the city on Friday amid having maximum humidity in the air considering this monsoon, said officials.
A light rain of 7.00 mm was recorded on the day which hardly brought any relief for the citizens who are going through a boiling experience for last ten days amid rising mercury.
Humidity in the air was measured as 91 per cent between Friday morning and noon which was highest this monsoon, said an official at the Met Office.
He said the humidity later declined to 69 per cent in the evening following normal trend.
He said normally relative humidity rate remains highest in August.
This time it might cross the previous high if such low rain continues, he said.
According to Met Office, the maximum temperature of Dhaka was recorded as 34 degree centigrade on Friday while highest mercury was measured in Sylhet as 37.4 degrees.
Met office forecasted light to moderate rain in few places over Dhaka and the other four divisions.
It said moderate rain might occur in most of the places of coastal divisions including Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram in the next day.
However, though water levels in some major rivers were showing a declining trend but woes of the flood-affected people was yet to be lessened.
A total of 5.7 million people are still waterlogged while the total death toll reached 169 on Friday in the six-week-long flood that brought devastation in 33 districts, according to the disaster management and relief ministry.
Eight people died just in a day between Thursday noon to Friday noon, according to the health ministry.
However, the water level in major rivers showed a downtrend.
Of 30 river points monitored in the Padma basin at 9.00 am Friday, water levels declined at 18 stations, while went up at 10 points, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).
The water level in the Padma River further declined by 15 cm at Goalunda point this morning but still was flowing 55 cm above the danger mark.
However, the Padma was flowing 169 cm, 179 cm, 93 cm and 82 cm below the danger levels at Pankha, Rajshahi, Hardinge Bridge and Talbaria points, respectively.
On the other hand, the water level of the Korotoa River and the Jamuna River in Bogura and Sirajganj districts were seen a falling trend further creating a hope of improvement of the flood situation in the two districts within the next few days.
The water level of the river across the Dhaka city has been decreasing and it might continue for the next 48 hours while flood situation in the low-lying area in Dhaka city might improve, said FFWC.
Flood situation in Sirajganj, Tangail, Natore, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Faridpur, Madaripur, Chandpur, Rajbari, Shariatpur, Dhaka and Narayanganj district was likely to improve.
