A minor boy and a woman were killed and three others injured on Monday in a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall for the last couple of days at Kalabagan in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati.

The deceased were identified as Surjya Mallik, 3 and Tahmina, 30 of the area, reports UNB.

According to bdnews24.com, the landslide occurred at around 1:00 pm on Monday in the neighbourhood of Karnaphuli Paper Mill, said Deputy Commissioner AKM Mamunur Rashid. He confirmed the death of the two.

“The landslide happened due to heavy downpour and the child got buried under the mud,” Rashid said.

A chunk of mud from a hill collapsed on some thatched houses, leaving the child and woman dead on the spot and three others injured, said Anwarul Islam, Chairman of no 1 Chandraghona union parishad.

All others in the two families living in those houses escaped. The firemen and locals recovered minor boy's body later. Tahmina was taken to hospital where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
