A criminal from Narsingdi was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at West Matikata area in Dhaka on Tuesday night.

The deceased, identified as 30-year-old Shafiqul, was wanted in a number of cases including that of murder.

RAB-11 commanding officer Lt Col Kazi Shomsher Uddin said a team of the elite force raided the attic of a high-rise building around 11:40pm after being tipped off about Shafiqul's location.

"Shafiqul and his two associates opened fire as soon as RAB arrived, triggering a skirmish," he said.

Shafiqul, seriously injured in the gunfight, was taken Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, Shomsher said, adding that a RAB member was also injured in the incident.

RAB also arrested Shafiqul's associates Faurk and Pradeep.
