Govt plans to set up BSTI office in every district

The government plans to set up offices of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) in all districts across the country.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun gave the information while speaking at a discussion in Cox's Bazar on Thursday, reports BSS.

“The government is planning to set up BSTI offices at district level for reaching its’ services to the doorsteps of people,” he said.

Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM) Foundation organised the discussion.

Earlier, the Industries Minster inaugurated the BSTI Cox’s Bazar district office.

State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder was present at the discussion as the special guest while BSTI Director General M Muazzem Hussain delivered the welcome speech.

As part of the government initiatives to set up BSTI district-level offices, Humayun said, BSTI has already established Office-cum-Laboratory Bhaban at different districts, including Mymensing, Rangpur, Faridpur and Cumilla.

“Establishment of BSTI offices in another 12 districts is under process,” he added.

Kamal Mojumder said the government has taken initiatives to turn BSTI into an international standard organisation.

“BSTI is making its utmost efforts to fulfil the government’s plan. BSTI is inflicting punishment to the unscrupulous traders,” he added.

Additional Secretary of the Industries Ministry Mohammad Mufizul Haque presided over the discussion.
