The government has taken a move to ensure humanitarian aid to migrant workers and their families, impacted by Covid-19 pandemic.

To this effect, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) has issued letters to district commissioners and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) on July 1 last.

In the letters, the MoDMR has directed them to ensure existing humanitarian aid to the vulnerable groups in every Upazila, according to a press release, issued by expatriates’ welfare ministry on Sunday.

The development came following recommendation, made by an inter-ministerial meeting, presided over Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad in April last, the press release said.

The aid will be distributed based on the list of applicants, prepared by District Employment and Manpower Offices (DEMOs)

Interested workers and family members have been suggested to communicate with the respective DEMOs.

In case of not  having DEMOs, the workers living in the areas will communicate with Technical Training Centres there.

The workers can visit the websites: www.probashi.gov.bd and www.bmet.gov.bd for necessary information regarding the humanitarian support.

However, many returned workers and families back home are facing acute financial crisis following prolonged Coronavirus pandemic. Migrant rights activists have been demanding for necessary funds for the vulnerable groups for long days.
