Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) found Aedes larvae in 216 houses and establishments in the capital on Sunday, the second day of its combing operation.

Five organisations in the Tejgaon industrial area were fined a total of Tk 40,000 by a DNCC mobile court for finding Aedes mosquito larvae.

On the second day of the operation, a total of 13,978 houses, establishments and buildings under construction in 54 wards were inspected and Aedes mosquito larvae were found in 216 of them.

In addition, 10,121 houses and establishments have a suitable environment for Aedes mosquito breeding.

Owners of other homes and establishments also were warned.

Locations of larvae are: discarded tires, buckets, flower tubs, bottles, water meters, garages, water houses, earthenware pots, broken mugs, house floors, water tanks, plastic containers, roof drains, yoghurt pots, abandoned commodes, coconut shells, pot, basement and space between two houses etc.

Earlier the DNCC launched a '10-day combing operation' on Saturday to prevent breeding of Aedes mosquitoes responsible for dengue fever.

The 10-day campaign runs from 10:00am to 1:00pm every day except Friday.

Under the campaign, every ward has divided into 10 sectors and each sector into 10 sub-sectors to help facilitate the campaign.

The combing operation is being conducted in one sector of each ward and 10 sub-sectors every day.

Thus, the combing operation will cover in the entire DNCC areas.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is providing various assistance in controlling the Aedes mosquito, including the combing operation.

Pictures, addresses, mobile numbers and other necessary information of Aedes mosquito larvae or Aedes mosquito breeding environment are immediately stored in an app during the combing operation.

This will help create a database of Aedes mosquitoes breeding in some areas of the DNCC at the end of the combing operation.

Later it will be easier to monitor them with the help of the database.

The app was created by Brigadier General Muhammad Amirul Islam, Chief Engineer of the DNCC.
