Five more COVID-19 deaths, 182 new infections in BD

Five more people died of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said today (Monday).

The death toll now stands at 39, the minister said during an online press briefing.

182 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of infected has reached 803.

Meanwhile, three patients have recovered since yesterday, taking the total recovery number to 42 so far, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General (Administration) of Health Services (DGHS), said during the briefing.

Some 1570 samples were tested from across the country in the last 24 hours, which is 38 per cent higher than the previous day’s test quantity, she added.

Dr Sultana informed that of 5684 people home quarantined in last 24 hours and the total number of home quarantine is now 85,498.

The number of institutional quarantine stands at 483 in last 24 hours and thus the total number stood at 20,189.

Earlier on Sunday, four people died and139 tested positive for the coronavirus in the country.

The deadly virus first reported in China, has so far infected 1,858,866 people globally and killed 114,699 of them, according to Worldometer.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
