Fire service personnel have conducted a final sweep on all the floors of the 22-storey FR Tower in Banani to ensure that there are no risks of another fire outbreak.

Shahjahan Sikder, a senior station officer of the fire service, said that the responsibilities for the building were in the process of being transferred to the police as the search did not reveal any further risks, reports bdnews24.com.

“A search operation was completed around 1pm. We found that there are no risks of another outbreak of fire.”

About 21 units of the fire service were engaged in efforts to tame a blaze which broke out in the building at Banani’s Kamal Ataturk Avenue on Thursday afternoon. The flames were fully doused after nearly seven and a half hours of efforts.

Besides the Fire Service and Civil Defence, members of the army, navy, and air force joined the rescue efforts

At least 25 people have died in the incident. Fire service personnel did not find any more bodies in the building during its search on Friday.

A probe team has been formed to assess the risk of any further fire outbreak at the building, said Shahjahan.

“The matter will be clear after the committee submits a report.”

Members of the police’s crime scene unit along with experts from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, or BUET, also took part in the search operation on Friday.
