Egypt eager to assist Bangladesh in fisheries, livestock sectors

Egypt has expressed its interest to assist Bangladesh in the development of fisheries and livestock sectors.

Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Walid Ahmed Shamseldin expressed his interest after paying a courtesy call on Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim at his official residence on Bailey Road in the capital on Friday.

During the meeting, the Egyptian ambassador Shamseldin termed both Bangladesh and Egypt  ‘brotherly countries’.

There are many traditions and cultural similarities between the two countries. Egypt wants to enhance cooperation on issues related to friendship and mutual interests in both countries, Mr Ahmed said.

Egypt can share its experience, technical assistance and medicine in Bangladesh’s livestock and fisheries sectors in the field of disease prevention, he points out.

Egypt has made tremendous progress in the fisheries sector. Bangladesh can also take that experience.

“In particular, world-class medicines and vaccines can be brought from Egypt to Bangladesh to stop infectious diseases of cattle”, Mr Walid stated.

There will be a huge demand for fish, meat, milk and eggs worldwide during the Covid 19 crisis. In that case, Egypt is interested in providing all kinds of assistance to Bangladesh to increase production in the poultry, fisheries and dairy sectors, the Egyptian ambassador added.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim assured him that Egypt's interest would be seriously considered.

Two sides also agreed to explore further areas of cooperation in the respective sectors in both countries.
