DU to expel 63 students for cheating

The discipline council of Dhaka University on Tuesday recommended the expulsion of 63 students who were found to have enrolled at the university through fraud during the academic years from 2012-13 to 2017-18.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the disciplinary council chaired by vice chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman, said proctor AKM Golam Rabbani, also the member secretary of the council.

The syndicate will now take the final decision, he added.

Those recommended for expulsion had also helped others follow illegal means to get admitted to the university and were involved in incidents of question leak, admission forgery, the proctor added.

Earlier on August 06 last year, UNB reported, the DU authorities suspended 69 students on charge of cheating in admission tests.

Later, the university authorities issued show-cause notices asking them to explain within seven days their positions over the allegations brought against them.

The explanations provided by the accused students could not satisfy the authorities, prompting them to finally recommend their expulsions.
