DNCC finds Aedes larvae in 162 houses, establishments  

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) found Aedes larvae in 162 houses and establishments on Tuesday and fined Tk 33,000 on the fourth day of its combing ongoing operation.

During the operation, mobile courts levied fines on the owners of the houses and establishments in nine cases as they found Aedes larvae there.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam also asked the executive magistrates to strengthen the mobile court drives in an online meeting on the day.

 A total of 14,293 houses, houses, establishments and under-construction buildings in 54 wards were inspected and Aedes larvae were found in 162 of them.

In addition, a total of 9,740 structures had a suitable environment for the breeding of Aedes mosquito.

Those areas were cleaned by DNCC cleaners. Workers also used mosquito repellents.

Owners of other homes also were warned.

Aedes larvae were found in abandoned tyre, bucket, flower tub, bottle, water meter, garage, water house, earthenware pot, broken mug, house floor, water tank, plastic container and roof drain.

The larvae were also spotted in yoghurt pot, abandoned commode, coconut shell, pot, basement and space between two houses.

Earlier, DNCC launched a '10-day combing operation' on June 06 to prevent the breeding of Aedes mosquito responsible for dengue fever.

The drive runs from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm every day, excluding Friday.

A total of 54,130 houses, establishments and under-construction buildings under 54 wards were inspected in three days from June 06 and Aedes larvae were found in 701 places.

In 37,543 houses and establishments, a suitable environment for Aedes mosquito breeding was available.

Besides, Tk 186,000 has been realised as fines in the past four days.

Pesticides were sprayed on breeding grounds and the city-dwellers asked to be vigilant to Aedes.
